Cold Destination

Are you heading to a cold destination? I'm off to Hong Kong tomorrow morning, and it's going to be a cold winter season! What to pack? Just because it's cold, it doesn't mean you can't look chic being 'bundled up' in winter clothing. Here's the list:

  1. Stick to the basics, or your suitcase will bulk up quickly.
  2. As for colors, stick to neutrals: black, brown, and cream are best. If you want a splash of color, play with your accessories (bags, scarves or jewelries).
  3. Cashmere is great because it's the warmest and least bulky.
  4. A fabulous black leather motorcycle jacket can give cold weather an edgy look. If there's room, bring also a great trenchcoat in light neutral colors (it looks richer against black) that can go from day to night, really chic!
  5. Think layers, such as tank tops and silky camisoles. Cotton leggings are also great staples for layering.
  6. Jeans are always a staple, as well as a dressy black trousers or a skirt in a cut that suits your shape (who knows you might be going to a fancy place that needs you to dress up a notch?).
  7. A light dress is okay. Remember, always think layering, not bulking up!
  8. Pack a hosiery, but never skin-colored. Go for the black opaque tights.
  9. Don't forget a hat (a newsboy, a beanie cap, a floppy wool beret -- anything that can easily be folded away), gloves, and even sunglasses.
  10. Go with a comfortable yet chic pair of walking shoes that can survive through rain and snow. I love men-style black leather combat boots and I'll also bring a pair of easy go-to-ballet-flats. For a night out, a black booties worn with opaque black tights looked amazing and sexy.

Fashionista - Kate Moss

The ever chic Miss Kate Moss. She has been considered as one of the fashion icon of our years. Her style exudes chicness and effortless cool. I'm a big fan of her style. If I could raid anyone's closet, I think hers would be the first. I've been particularly drawn into her edgy sorta androgynous chic look. You know me, I'm all about being effortless chic. And Kate represents all that.

Wanna look like Kate?
  • Invest on a great real leather black motorcycle jacket (it'll last forever!)
  • Dark skinny jeans (very rock n roll)
  • A statement chic bag (I'm currently loving 3.1 Phillip Lim 'Edie' bow studded bag)
  • A great pair of black ballet flat shoes--satin or patent (comfy, chic and it can go from day to night)
  • An amazing pair of killer heels or booties
  • A great pair of sunglasses (I'd suggest RayBan classic wayfarer or Oakley frogskin sunglasses)

Just a Random Happy Stuff

This is just a random feel good stuff. Inspired by my good blogger friend Seyma, I would like to do the same by having random questions to get to know you (and myself) better. You can either post it back with your own answer to the comment on my blog page, or wrote it in your own by linking it back to me (but please let me know if you do so!). Here we go:

1. Name a film you've seen more than any other:
Gosh. There's just too many. One particular movie would have to be Clueless (such a cult!).

2. Who or what makes you laugh?
Funny stuff.

3. Give me a name you are otherwise known by:
Kara, Kar.

4. What's the cheesiest song on your iPod?
Mysterious Girl by Peter Andre (haha!).

5. Describe a happy childhood memory:
All overseas family vacations. Also where things used to be so simple.

6. What are you proudest of achieving this week?
Finishing all my work and coming up with some fab new ideas.

7. Name something you have won:
There's a first prize medal I won in junior high that I really can't remember for what.

8. What's your go-to comfort food?
Instant noodles, it's really bad for you, but it's such a comfort food!

9. Name something you made from scratch?
A notebook that I made for my husband's birthday when we're still just boyfriend-girlfriend.

10. Who is your oldest friend?
There are a couple. But the oldest are the people I've mentioned a couple of times in my previous blog entries..

11. Name something you are proud of?
There are a couple of things in my life that I'm proud of. One of them: Back in 2003, being nominated as Best New Breakthrough Artist at an award show for my first debut album hahaha. I've been putting that career off for quite a while now.

12. List a compliment someone has given you:
That I actually have a pretty good voice (haha!).

13. Which characteristic about your star sign is most true to you?
Libra - a born flirt, diplomatic, love of harmony and stylish.

14. What's the best bargain you've bought?
My el cheapo Forever21 shirt that a famous Indonesian fashion designer is envious for. He thought it costs a fortune! I guess I can rock almost anything and made it look expensive, eh?

15. What did you have on your walls/school books as a teenager?
Magazine cutouts of my fave fashion styles, celeb crushes and random doodlings.

Avatar

Went to see this film last weekend. Directed by James Cameron, the film begins in 2148 and focuses on an epic conflict on Pandora, an inhabited Earth-sized moon of Polyphemus. On Pandora, human colonists and the sapient humanoid indigenous inhabitants of Pandora, the Na'vi, engage in a war over the planet's resources and the latter's continued existence. The film's title refers to the remotely controlled, genetically engineered human-Na'vi bodies used by the film's human characters to interact with the natives. Starring: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.

I thought this was an EXCELLENT movie. What a great way to end 2009. I thought this was the best movie of 2009! Seriously. I don't even care for that whole vampire movie saga that everyone's been drooling after. AVATAR IS AWESOME. Go see it if you haven't. It's worth every penny!

Marche (Movenpick) Restaurant

Last weekend I went on a date night with husband (as usual) for a dinner and a movie. We went to this Swiss franchise restaurant called Marche. I love the decor -- it's a combination of different styles that match the eight-themed sections of the restaurant, from the dim coziness of a wine cellar to the romantic Italian corner to the Swiss ski cable car (how cute!). Everything here from pasta to steaks are prepared before our eyes.

There's even a cow watching as we ate in one of the inside booth that resembles a classic Alpine lodge. Haha. Yeah, I'm sure you know it's fake.
Delicious Italian cheese and tomato pizza (aka Margarita)
The famous veal schnitzel and mashed potatoes with gravy.
Oh. This, you gotta try. Thin crepes with mascarpone cheese filling topped with vanilla ice cream and Swiss chocolate melt.

another late night activity

I think it has starting to become a routine that every time I have a wedding to attend, my husband and I made a round trip for a late night munchies at 7-11 afterwards. And that's exactly what we did (again) last Saturday night.

We went to a friend's wedding, tagging along was my dear friend since kindergarten days, Dara. Not really wanting to immediately go home, made a short stop at 7-11 for the hot dogs (minus the yucky neon cheese sauce) and some rootbeer slurpees with our wedding getup and all.

the art of gift

Christmas is just a few days away! Have you all done your Christmas shopping? Done wrapping all your Christmas presents? I haven't haha. I actually just finished my shopping yesterday and I haven't even started wrapping them yet. I think I should start soon.

I'm the kind of person who doesn't settle for 'ordinary'. So every Christmas for the past couple of years I've always challenge myself to think of a 'spectacular' and 'out-of-the-box' themes and things for my Christmas presents. It's fun. Last year I came up with a Go-Green theme. This year, I'm going for the Love Thy Nations theme. I'm not going to mention what I got for my family but I'll give you a hint: it's all about Indonesian's heritage.

Speaking of Christmas presents, here are some Gift Etiquette 101 by Leslie Carlin, co-author of the Etiquette Grrls books that explains about the art of polite giving and receiving:

Can you re-gift? "It's acceptable, but never pass on anything unique or handmade, anything used, or anything where there's a chance the original giver will see it."

How long do you have to send a thank-you note? "With the holidays, you've got until early January. A note is best, but a phone call or email is okay. Never text a thank-you!"

What do you do when someone gives you a gift, but you don't have one in return? "Accept it graciously, then make sure to remember them next year!"

7-11, what can I say?

Sunday night went to a friend's wedding with hubby. When we arrived, the food were almost non-existent on the buffet table. Can't believe they only served limited number of food when the guests are almost reaching 5000 people. So, we left the party early. Can't bear the hunger any longer. Made a short stop at the brand new 7-11 (ah yes now we have 7-11 in Jakarta, how fab is that?) for a late night muchies:

Strawberry (his) and Rootbeer (mine) slurpees

Hot Dog. It was okay I guess, except for the fact that the neon orange mystery cheese sauce ruined it.
Today is my father's birthday! Happy birthday dad! Wishing you many more fabulous years to come! Pray for a grandchildren soon! Amen.

December 09 Wish-Lists

Okay. It's that time of the month yet again! This time I think the list has gone shorter than the last. But it's okay! Haha. Check it out:

1. Lanvin linen and leather ballerina flats
2. Mulberry daria leather satchel
3. House of Harlow women's large peacock cocktail ring
4. One Vintage Hattie necklace
5. Sass and Bide "see the future" t-shirt
6. Marc by Marc Jacobs sasha leather bag
7. Ashish sequined boyfriend-fit blazer

I think my style has gone more towards the androgynous chic directions. I'm currently crazy on cocktail rings especially those who have that boho edgy style to it.

The Blue Erawan

Went to lunch with my parents today at this fabulous Thai cuisine restaurant called The Blue Erawan. This restaurant has franchises all over the world. The first time I've ever eaten in this restaurant is at the one in Paris, France. But it's called The Blue Elephant. I don't know why they call it differently here. Well, as long as they have the same fantabulous delicious food, it's all good! I heart Thai cuisine. On one of my trips to Bangkok, Thailand, a while back, I ate so much it's not even funny!

Anyway. I find the restaurant has excellent food, ambience and services. Very exotic!

The decor is simply fantabulously exudes the exotic-ness of Thailand.

Compliments from the Chef:
My mom's fave (I forgot what's it called):
My fave (prawn cake!):
I ate so much which includes: green chicken curry, deep fried fish with traditional chili sauce, and sauted morning glory (I didn't take pictures on these foods because soon as they arrived at our table, I quickly filled my plate and devoured it within minutes). For dessert I had the steamed banana with coconut cream and a side dish of vanilla ice cream! Very delicious!!!

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! Even just for drinks late at night, they've got some delicious selections of cocktails.

Military Inspired - Olivia Palermo

I recently bought this fabulous military-inspired blazer/jacket from Zara. It was an impulsive thing haha. But when I first saw it hit the store, I thought to myself, "okay.. I love that blazer/jacket so much, I just have to have it.. I know I'm going to wear it OFTEN." So I tried it on, looked into the mirror and thought, "damn I look good!" (ha, okay, no I didn't really say that to myself.. but close enough: "damn this jacket look so hot!").

There you go. This jacket is now sitting pretty in my room. I've worn them for my date night last weekend. I rocked it with a faux-leather legging and a v-neck white boyfriend t-shirt. And since it was a casual dinner date, I wore my gray studded suede flat shoes instead of the usual killer heels.

Lo and behold! I was surfing through the net the other day only to find that Olivia Palermo has the exact same jacket! What are the odds? She's like one of my favorite fashionista ever! So I guess we have similar taste then? Haha.
