Baby A's "Tedak Siten"

Sunday 29th May 2011 we held "Tedak Siten" event for my 9 months old son. Basically it's a Javanese traditional ceremony to celebrate a baby's first steps. No, my boy hasn't walked on his own yet, but he is able to hold on to something and make his way to the other side with his own two feet.

For a moment there I was a bit worried that he'll start crying once people started to hover around him. But I can actually brush my worries away. He was such a troop, smiling and actually enjoyed the whole hoopla. Such a good little boy! I am so proud of him.

The decoration (all creative ideas was my mom's):

All the traditional "stuff" for the ceremony courtesy of Mamie Hardo:

Washing his feet with jasmine-filled water:

Taking his first step:

Climbing the stairs (boy, is he excited or what):

The only picture we managed to get while he's wearing the Javanese traditional hat (also known as Blangkon):

Stepping on soils for the first time:

Washing away all the soils:

The reason he was put him in a cage is so that he can choose 3 out of the many items we put inside (each has a meaning):

The result? He chose car key (means that he'll have a smooth life), money (means that he'll never be short of anything *amen*) and candle (means that he'll always go through a bright path in life):

I'll always pray for nothing but the very best for my son.

"Get Back Jack"

Randomly searching through youtube for good songs and I found this: Redstone Hall.
I can only say one thing: Amazing.
I love the music. Quite a find I must say. I hope I can get to see them perform live maybe on my trip this September.

so lazy.

This song pretty much sums up my current mood.

Sing with me y'all.

Today I don't feel like doing anything
I just wanna lay in my bed
Don't feel like pickin' up my phone
So leave a message at the tone
'Cause today I swear I'm not doin' anything

I'm gonna kick my feet up then stare at the fan
Turn the TV on throw my hand in my pants
Nobody's gonna tell me I can't

I'll be lounging on the couch just chillin' in my snuggie
Click to MTV so they can teach me how to dougie
'Cause in my castle I'm the freakin' man
Oh, oh

Yes I said it, I said it
I said it 'cause I can

Tomorrow I'll wake up do some P90X
Meet a really nice girl have some really nice sex
She's gonna scream out "This is Great!"

Yeah, I might mess around and get my college degree
I bet my old man would be so proud of me
But sorry Pops you'll just have to wait

Yes I said it, I said it
I said it 'cause I can

No I ain't gonna comb my hair
'Cause I ain't goin' anywhere
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

I'll just strut in my birthday suit
And let everything hang loose
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Yes I said it, I said it
I said it 'cause I can

baby wanna walk

My mother bought my boy a baby-walker. At first I think he's much more interested in all the knick-knacks attached to it (piano keyboard and other buttons that resulted in various songs and sounds).

After a few days only playing around with the keyboard etc, he finally took that first step walking with it. And to my surprise, he dashes around in front of me. Now he can almost run with it. I guess he's very impatient until the day he can finally walk on his own. His face was priceless! Serious in a cartoon-ish kind of way.

up, UP and away

Curious with all this shoe brand's hype (all great testimonials) I decided to take a look and see what it's all about.

Diana Rikasari, the mastermind behind UP shoes, believed that a pair of pretty shoes would always make her day. On the road, in the classroom, inside the taxi, she would always stare at her shoes and think how lucky she is to have her feet covered with beauties.

UP shoes is established in the end of 2010, with hopes to spread happiness around the world. The shoes are made-to-order, which helps to minimize waste and inventory cost. For every pair of UP shoes being purchased, IDR 5.000 is allocated for charity. UP shoes come with passion and purpose (I can tell) and (proudly to say) it is 100% Indonesian. Yay local brand!

So anyway, I got tickled real bad to try. I purchased my first UP shoes (on the safe side I chose Pandora Nude just because I know it'll go with the rest of my wardrobes). I waited anxiously for it to arrive at my door. When the shoes finally arrived, it hit me. All those testimonials were true. They were excellently made and it fits perfectly. Not only that, it is damn comfortable too! Kudos!

Music + Baby

Seems like my 8 months old baby has gained more interest in music. He has shown some love for bands like Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, The Strokes and even Foo Fighters at his early age! How do I know this? He would instantly calmed down and fell asleep to those bands' music. Particularly Coldplay. Even until now, whenever we put on Coldplay's Viva La Vida, he would turned silent, listening peacefully until he fell asleep. Its like a lullaby to him! So adorable.

He has shown more interest, or should I say curiosity, towards musical instrument too.

I'm hoping he'll be able to bump into Mr. Chris Martin when we make a trip this summer! *crossing fingers*
